Themester Project

During the 2022 Spring Semester of the B.F.A. Program, we were introduced to a project by the College of Arts & Sciences. Every semester the College conducts a themed semester, “Themester”, where events would be conducted under that theme. This semester’s theme was “Identity and Identification”, and the class was to interpret that and create a poster (or in some people’s case poster series) that would encompass the entirety of the Themester theme. The College would then choose our posters, pay us for our work, and display the posters on their website, across campus, and distribute them for people to keep at events.

My poster focused on the interpersonal relation one has with their identity and how daunting finding an identity that fits could be. I didn’t want to focus on a race, ethnicity, or gender, so I illustrated a sort of genderless avatar. The avatar focuses on the introspection. All the colors symbolize the many different identities and personas a person can take on. I chose a more minimalist approach to make the poster a bit easier to read, and so that the interpretation of the poster could be centralized on what information was given.

My poster was chosen amongst a few others to represent Themester. You can see my interview and the poster up on the College’s website here.
